Zone, Flow, Purpose, Outcome

To write, and to write well, I suppose you have to be in the “zone”. In the zone, you find an uncompromised “flow”.

All of this driven by some “purpose”, which will eventually be measured through some expected “outcome”. A poem, a post, a book? A follower, a like, a retweet? What is this “outcome” ? we often seek so much externalized outcome that the zone is surrendered in favor of a performative piece of work. We put ourselves in a theater, seeking some grand applause for our art, having long forgotten the art that brought us here.

The zone misses the art more than the artist misses the zone.
